Sunderland Culture is looking for an Assistant Producer to join its Culture Start project team. This new post will support the Culture Start Manager in the delivery of Culture Start, a new citywide arts and cultural programme for children and young people.

The Culture Start Assistant Producer is a key member of the Culture Start team and works closely with the Culture Start Manager to support the successful delivery of Culture Start — a new £1.5 million, 3-year programme that seeks to explore how access to arts and cultural opportunities can address some of the long-term impacts of economic deprivation on children and young people in Sunderland. The role is responsible for assisting the Culture Start Manager to deliver all areas of the Culture Start programme. The role will work alongside colleagues in Sunderland Culture, as well as colleagues in partner venues and organisations across the city.

Job Requirements

  • Experience of co-ordinating small-scale projects and associated budgets.
  • Experience of working with children and young people and knowledge about safeguarding
  • Excellent communication, administrative, planning and organisation skills

Job Responsibilities

  • To assist the Culture Start Manager on the successful delivery of the Culture Start Programme, co-ordinating agreed specific strands of work.
  • To co-ordinate key administrative tasks for the Culture Start programme, including maintaining the Culture Start events and activities calendar, responding to queries about the programme, handling participant bookings, booking venues and ordering catering and equipment.
  • To support the Culture Start Manager in maintaining accurate records about Culture Start beneficiaries and processing in line with Sunderland Culture’s privacy policy
  • To liaise with creative practitioners, including co-ordinating bookings and scheduling, carrying out contracting, establishing any access requirements and ensuring key documentation such as risk assessments, insurance policies and DBS checks are in place.



Budget £26,000 p.a.
