Cultural Education Residency

Closing date:

Glow Newcastle

Glow Newcastle and South Gosforth First School are seeking artists or organisations working in Newcastle upon Tyne for a school-based residency across the 2023-24 academic year with the theme of Storytelling Through Movement and / or Visual Art.

Glow, Newcastle’s Cultural Education Partnership, supports children and young people to fulfil their creative potential and participate in high-quality cultural experiences in school and beyond. The organisation forges cross-sector partnerships based on immediate local needs and interests, to broaden the range of creative and cultural learning opportunities available to our children and young people.

This residency will explore the physical dimensions of storytelling with two Year 3 classes and their teaching teams, and culminate in a co-created output to be shared across the partnership and beyond.

Glow welcomes applications from artists and organisations who work with movement and / or visual art to share stories and have experience in the following areas:

  • Working with children aged 8-9 years on participatory, co-creation projects
  • Working in education settings
  • Developing and running medium-term, co-creation projects
  • Storytelling (Glow is open to proposals from a wide range of practice, visual, spoken, performance, etc.)
  • Drama or the visual arts

Current DBS for child workforce and Limited Liability Insurance are essential for all applicants.

The resident artist or organisation will deliver a CPD session to the wider staff body, then work with the year-group teaching team to co-create their storytelling project over the winter, spring and summer terms. The project will culminate in a sharing event, showing the outcome of this residency to parents and carers, wider staff and Glow, Newcastle representatives and stakeholders.
