Beautiful Difference: Commissions for Exchange (C4X)

The Commissions 4 Exchange Laboratory (C4X Lab for short) will offer the chance for new visiting artists to collaborate with members of the company of neurodiverse and learning disabled creatives over a four-day laboratory.

In the lab artists will co-create an artwork or short performance with no prescribed subject. Headway Arts will provide access support, mentoring with Creative Director Allie Walton-Robson, studio/stage time, equipment, materials and a training bursary. Artists will be required to present work created at Headway Arts’ event The Beautiful Difference Symposium 2024 at Headway ArtSpace on 26 March 2024. There will be 30 people gathered at this event for an exhibition, exchange of ideas, conversation in a platform which provides the equity needed for neurodiverse and learning disabled creatives to develop and discuss their work.

Who can apply?

Artists of any discipline who are open to increasing their knowledge and understanding of inclusive creative practice. It is particularly for suitable for emerging or early career artists who are open to growing their ideas and skill through collaboration. Headway Arts is particularly interested in working with people from under-represented groups who may be facing multiple barriers to the development of their artistic practice.

How to apply

Interviews will take place on 26 / 27 February 2024. DBS checks will be required by 11 March: Headway Arts can help with these.

The labs run from 11 – 14 March and 18 – 21 March, from 9.30am – 3.30pm. The symposium is on 26 March.

Applicants would need to make themselves available for all dates.
