Testhouse 5, situated close to Albion Row Studios, is home to artists Andy McDermott, Natural Born Dyers, Pat McArdle & Laisa Valletta.
In the early 20th century the land was home to College Sweets, followed in 1938 by Domestos (chemical works). The site was then bought by Morley Coachworks in 1976, which moved premises to make way for the new Metro line. Mintex (vehicle braking systems) occupied the building in the 1980s, and a decade later it became a factory manufacturing ribbons and bows. This closed down in 1998 before the building re-opened the following year as Testhouse 5.
Threatened with demolition in 2005, Testhouse 5 is still active today and curious to test new ideas! Though it is not normally open to the public, it participates in regular open studios events such as Ouseburn Open Studios.
