An organisation which is backed by the cultural sector, the region’s five universities, the further education sector, all twelve local authorities as well as national organisations such as Arts Council England, Historic England and National Lottery Heritage Fund, the North East Culture Partnership builds upon the commitment and enthusiasm of the region for its culture and heritage and continues to champion the role they can play in the economic, social and creative growth of the region.
The partnership is composed of practitioners, local authorities, universities, colleges, businesses and voluntary organisations across the North East of England to champion, promote and support the arts and heritage sectors in the region and internationally. Launched in 2013 to support and develop the region’s cultural offer, the organisation saw an opportunity to build upon the commitment and enthusiasm of the region for its culture and heritage, champion its development as well as proactively support the economic, social and creative growth in the North East.
The Case for Culture, developed by the NECP, sets out a framework for the development and growth of the region’s arts and heritage sectors from 2015 to 2030. In 2022, the Case for Culture was refreshed through consultation with the region’s heritage and arts organisations, practitioners and stakeholders. It represents the region speaking in one coherent voice, and has many purposes, including recognising the strengths of the arts and heritage offer in our region; supporting and developing that offer even further; and ensuring the benefits of a strong culture scene in the region are accessible to all. It aims to encourage people to see investment in culture as more than just a cost, but as a way to stimulate further growth in the region and beyond.
