The Gymnasium Gallery hosts a programme of modern and contemporary art between April and October each year.

Managed by the Maltings (Berwick) Trust, the gallery commissions and exhibits regional and national artists, including work produced via a visual artist in residence programme.

With a focus on sculpture, moving image work and installation, the gallery has previously exhibited work by artists of international standing including Douglas Gordon, Bethan Huws, Juneau Projects, S Mark Gubb, Hardeep Phandal, Tania Kovats and Suki Chan.

The gallery is sited in a former military gymnasium connected to Berwick Barracks, the first purpose-built military barracks in Britain, designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor.
