What is meant by ‘disabled’ people?
Fresh Creatives use the social model of disability to define ‘disabled.’ You can watch a video by Shape Arts that explains what this means, by clicking here. Fresh Creatives recognises that not all disabilities are visible and encourages applications from neurodivergent people who identify as disabled.
What does Fresh Creatives offer?
A series of face-to-face practical workshops to help you tackle the challenges of being a creative business
Up to 5 hours of 1-to-1 goals mentoring, outside of workshop time, to support you to achieve your goals
Practical and useful business advice to develop your skills, knowledge and the confidence to succeed
Tailored workshops about knowing your rights and practical advice about getting Access to Work support
When and where is Fresh Creatives happening?
All workshop activities will take place in central Newcastle on the following dates and times:
Thursday 5 Oct – introduction to Fresh Creatives (10am – 3.30pm)
Thursday 19 Oct (11.00am – 2.00pm)
Thursday 2 Nov (10.30am – 2.30pm)
Thursday 16 Nov (11.00am – 2.00pm)
Thursday 7 Dec (10.30am – 2.30pm)
Thursday 14 Dec (11.00am – 2.00pm)
Thursday 11 Jan 2024 (10.30am – 2.30pm)
Thurs 25 Jan (11.00am – 2.00pm)
Thursday 15 Feb (10.30am – 2.30pm)
Thurs 29 Feb (11.00am – 2.00pm)
Thursday 14 March (10.30am – 2.30pm)
The 1-to-1 goals mentoring will be arranged directly with participants.
Who can apply?
You can apply if:
You live in Newcastle, Northumberland or North Tyneside
You are 16 or over
You have the right to work in the UK
You are trying to start a business (even if you are finding it difficult to do so) or
You have already started a business but worry that you might have to stop within one year from now
And, if you work in or want to work in film/screen, photography, music, web design, graphic design, app/digital development, journalism or marketing
For this project, a ‘business’ means being or becoming a freelancer / self-employed, or setting up or already running a company, charity, other organisation or partnership.
Who is running Fresh Creatives?
Beacon Films, a community interest company (CIC) that supports the talents of Disabled and Neurodivergent filmmakers and exhibitors.
Project North East – a business development and support organisation, based in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Fresh Creatives is being run as part of Creative Central: NCL and supported by North of Tyne Combined Authority and Newcastle City Council.
