Unified by a strong sense of place, Durham County Council's cultural programmes, festivals and events have authentic roots from brass bands and the county's industrial past, to its strong religious and political history, and breathtaking landscapes.

Durham County Council looks after key cultural programmes, and venues including theatres, museums, libraries and archives as well as festivals and events including Lumiere, Brass and Durham Book Festival.

The council service’s goal is to improve cultural access and through creativity develop empowered communities with growing civic pride and greater wellbeing. To help achieve this, the council is seeking an experienced Festivals, Events and Cultural Engagement Manager who will lead on our countywide festivals, events and cultural engagement programmes. You will oversee delivery of our NPO festivals programme including Durham Brass, Durham Book Festival and the iconic light art biennial, Lumiere, as well the county’s established food festivals at Bishop Auckland and Seaham. You will also oversee and bring your creative vision to the council’s cultural engagement programme, ensuring an aligned approach to programme development and collaborative working across a network of organisations, partners and creative practitioners to encourage the growth of independent programmes and activity across County Durham.

Durham County Council is looking for a highly motivated individual with significant experience of cultural events and the community arts sector who is passionate about widening access and reaching new and diverse audiences. You’ll have excellent planning and organisational skills matched with creative flair. Bringing fresh thinking and innovative creative approaches, you’ll be an engaging communicator able to build and maintain productive partnerships with key stakeholders, the community and the wider cultural sector.
