Dynamic Collections Assistant

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is looking to recruit a keen, dynamic and well organised individual to join its team and assist with the delivery of the NHLF funded project, ‘This House Sparks Joy, Decluttering Preston Park Museum’.

The successful candidate will join the team at Preston Park Museum & Grounds at an exciting moment as we embark on a major capital development. We are preparing to transform the visitor experience, enhance engagement with our collections and welcoming major exhibitions to our region.

We are looking to recruit a keen, dynamic and well organised individual to join our team and assist with the delivery of the NHLF funded project, ‘This House Sparks Joy, Decluttering Preston Park Museum’.

The project contains three interconnected strands of work: a store move, the creation of a process which allows us to take an achievable approach to rationalisation and the development of a new Collections Development policy that supports our strategic objectives and contemporary collecting ambitions. All three strands will be shaped by and delivered in collaboration with our volunteers, visitors, and wider local community.

The project underpins an exciting period of change for Preston Park Museum as it is transformed by a Government Levelling Up funded redevelopment which sees the opening of a new extension housing visible and open stores as well as a large temporary exhibition space.

The postholder will be part of the development team, mainly assisting on the store move – identifying, packing, and moving objects into a triage space for conservation cleaning and then onto their new homes in the new open/visible storage. Alongside this they will also deal with the objects that remain in offsite storage which we do not intend to rehouse, kickstarting a rapid review, rationalisation and disposal process.

Experience of collections care is essential to this role.

Please note this post is fixed term for 2 years.

We offer an excellent total reward package including a competitive salary, generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement as well as access to a number of additional employee benefits and a wide range of learning and development opportunities.
