The successful candidate will be employed primarily as a ‘polymaker’, producing detailed polystyrene patterns from digital files, which are then cast in iron at Antony Gormley’s foundry in Hexham. All assistants also carry out allocated tasks within the studio to ensure the smooth running of wider operations for the whole team.
The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and confident maker, with excellent practical skills across a range of tools, materials and processes. Candidates should be interested in the challenges of artwork fabrication, with a can-do attitude and find working in a small, tight-knit team rewarding. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work at pace, with a high degree of accuracy, are a must.
Ideally applicants will have demonstrable professional experience in a making/workshop environment, however those with a high practical aptitude will also be considered. This position will suit someone looking to gain experience within a professional artist’s studio whilst maintaining/developing an existing creative practice of their own.
