Arts Centre Washington

A retrospective exhibition of work by North East-based artist Tony Erskine.

‘I have always lived in the North East of England and graduated from Newcastle College of Art in 1967 with a degree in graphic design.

In 1968, I was appointed graphic designer for Washington Development Corporation at a very exciting time in the Washington story and was involved in a wide range of projects and campaigns to promote the New Town. After leaving Washington Development Corporation, I went on to work for Tyne and Wear County Council and Northumbria Police Authority.

In retirement, I rekindled my interest in silkscreen printing and enjoy the flat colour which this process allows. My paintings are mainly inspired by the beautiful Northumberland coast, where I also collect driftwood from which I make a variety of objects.’ —Tony Erskine
