Thomas Hennell: The Land and the Mind

2 – 3.30pm

The Maltings

Writer and researcher Jessica Kilburn tells the fascinating life story of unjustly neglected artist Thomas Hennell.

Described by painter Carel Weight as ‘the greatest English watercolourist that England has produced this century,’ Thomas Hennell’s watercolours and drawings show his deep love and knowledge of the English countryside. He was killed at the age of 42 while serving as an Official War Artist in Indonesia in 1945.

This lecture takes place in the context of Matilda Bevan’s exhibition Vein.
