Swords Into Ploughshares, Knives Into Jewels

Tue – Sat, 10am – 4pm

Opening event, 3 February, 12 – 3pm

Redcar Palace

The first in a series of thought-provoking exhibitions that look at bringing about positive change through art and crafting.

Swords into Ploughshares, Knives into Jewels is a touring exhibition curated by Norman Cherry and Dauvit Alexander from Birmingham School of Jewellery. The curators worked with 34 of the world’s leading jewellery artists to repurpose knives into jewellery — and therefore removing them from circulation on the streets.

The only opportunity for audiences to see this exhibition in the North East, the exhibition will be complemented by a range of other projects that have used crafting for social change; a new body of photographic portraits by Kev Howard which celebrate the region’s creative community; and a new commission by Lizzie Lovejoy, Portrait of a Wellness Worker, which explores the relationship between crafting and wellbeing.
