Pedagogue
Visit The NewBridge Project’s Reading Room this autumn to watch Pedagogue, the anti-Section 28 agit-prop video made in 1988 by Stuart Marshall, Neil Bartlett and Newcastle Polytechnic students. Section 28 was a British Government legislation prohibiting the ‘promotion’ of homosexuality in education.
Cuttings: Ceremonies of Trans Grief
Bookended by Trans Day of Remembrance and World Aids Day in November and December, poet and community organiser Kaan K is hosting a series of events to create for collective grieving, gathering and re-performing queer histories. Visit the gallery space to experience an altar made of plants.
Care, Temporality, Justice: a creative zine-making and radical imagination workshop
Take part in radical imagination exercises, cut and stick with some collaging activities and make your very own mini zines, all on the themes of speculative climate futures. Learn about zine making and how it can be used as a powerful tool for activism, and creatively express your own relationship with climate justice and the topics you are passionate about, as well as learn from other like-minded people. We will also be celebrating the launch of a new zine publication, ‘Care, Temporality, Justice’ – a collaborative zine about speculative climate futures – the outcome of a series of creative zine-making and radical imagination workshops held at the NewBridge Project.
This drop-in workshop is hosted by Miranda Iossifidis. Ages 13+, but a parent or guardian must accompany those under 16.
NewBridge Books
NewBridge Books is the entry point to NewBridge’s space and studios and provides space for welcome, conversation, and a place to meet. It acts as an event space and hosts a programme of book launches, talks, poetry readings and reading circles centred around print and publishing, creating space for shared learning and exchange.
It provides a resource and platform for artists, writers, and makers who write, publish, and make books stocked alongside gifts and artworks made by local and national artists and items made through our community and open-access workshops programme. Stock includes books, zines, and magazines that explore visual art, photography, politics, the environment, sustainability, poetry, and more.
