North of England Art Club Exhibition

Mon – Fri, 9.30am – 5pm; Sat, 9.30am – 1pm

The Gallery, Gateshead Library

This exhibition brings together a selection of work by some of the current members of the North of England Art Club, showcasing the talent and variety of the artwork created. Artists include Harry Bell, Hilary Franks, Bruce McNiven, Alan Mason and Judy Appleby.

The Newcastle Society of Artists was set up in 1835 as an association of professional artists which included J.W. Carmichael and Luke Clennel. In the 1970s a group of artists left the society and set up the North of England Art Club, before the two groups joined together again in 1982. Today, the North of England Art Club has over 70 members based in studios at Newcastle Art Centre. It has a busy programme of workshops, events, exhibitions and talks.
