In Miscue, Collins transforms the gallery into an immersive abstraction of a traditional pub. Initially informed by The Limekiln pub in Nottingham, Collins is interested in the point where cultures collide and merge, and both the camaraderie and conflict that can occur in civic spaces. An amalgamation of pub and social club references influences the installation, with a colossal and distorted pool table confronting viewers as they enter the space. Contrasting the sleek table, upholstered panels adorn the surrounding walls, enveloping the space in ubiquitous textures synonymous with public house environs.
Mac Collins (b.1995) lives and works between Newcastle and Nottingham. He graduated with a BA in 3D design at Northumbria University in 2018. Hannah Olukoga (b.1999) is a London-based art curator, writer, facilitator and researcher dedicated to working with contemporary artists from Africa and the diaspora. Within the Western context, Hannah emphasises the urgent need to continuously question and completely dismantle structures that have been systematically built by societal institutions and upheld in “civil” society. Hannah argues that individuals can forge a path towards collective transformation, advocating for artists and curators as indispensable storytellers and cultural guardians. Formerly, Hannah has collaborated on various projects with organisations including The House of African Art, Creative Debuts, Adidas, The National Maritime Museum and The Barbican. Their most recent appointment was at the South London Gallery as assistant curator delivering exhibitions and live programmes including: Pope.L, Hospital (2023); Motunrayo Akinola, Knees Kiss Ground(2024); Firelei Baez, Sueño de la Madrugada (2024); Christina Kimeze, Between Wood and Wheel (2025); and Leonardo Drew, Ubiquity II (2025)
