Ki Yoong: Faces, Faces

Thu – Sat, 12 – 6pm

Preview 7 September 2023, 6 – 9pm

The debut solo presentation from London-based artist Ki Yoong. Ki’s approach is figurative, taking inspiration from a breadth of material, notably the people around him, places real and fictional, poetry, and art history.

Ki has exhibited internationally and has collaborated with a variety of brands and institutions including Vogue, Alex Eagle, Paul Smith and The House of St Barnabas. You might also find Ki painting murals and running workshops with the children of Coppermill Primary School, Walthamstow, where he has been Artist in Residence for the past three years.

‘Although my work captures the faces of people in a moment, I want each work to be experienced as a starting point; a small reflection or story. I want you to imagine who the works are, who they could be, and the where and the why of each person. I’m curious to explore this intentionality between viewing and the viewer: an intentionality of experiencing the work, and simultaneously, a covert intentionality directed back at oneself, a reflection of you. Through this, the work acts as a mirror, to yourself, those around you, and on your current, past, and desired future. The people in the paintings become different configurations of you… are you able to draw those connections between what you see and yourself?’ —K.Y.
