Theresa Poulton (b. 1963, Everton) began her art education in 2008 at the University of Sunderland with a Fine Art degree, after which she gained an MFA at Newcastle University in 2013.

Theresa’s paintings are hybrid, a fusion of text and abstraction. Her typographical words and statements are politically loaded; in general they are informed by lived experiences.

Theresa has taught workshops in galleries and academic institutions the UK and internationally. She has taught a wide range of visual art subjects and works together with participants from a diversity of backgrounds, levels of art education and achievement.

As a freelance/community artist, Theresa devises and delivers creative participatory workshops to hard to reach groups.

As an active member of Stand Up To Racism North East, Theresa has joined forces with fellow activists from SUTRNE to form an Anti-Racism in Education group.
