Lydia Brockless

I was born in Buckinghamshire in 1991, and have made my way to the North East via Yorkshire, Kent and Essex. I studied at Leeds College of Art, and the Royal College of Art, graduating from the Sculpture programme in 2021.

My work spans a range of media, but is rooted in a sculptural sensitivity — an interest in material, gravity and objecthood, which I use to explore ideas surrounding space, time, movement and emotion. I am interested in the deep and varied movements of Earth; slow progress, violent episodes, breakages and moments of healing. Long, gradual processes of layering; rapidly erupting matter.

I make, collage, print, film, photograph, write, draw and teach. I love to take things apart and remake them, rearrange objects and words, keep things moving. I have a studio in rural Northumberland, inside an old stable building which I recently renovated.
