Jo’s artworks explore air and glass, often incorporating the human form. She works with bubbles within the internal space of glass, a technique she developed during her doctorate. Her work is currently in the collections of the Shanghai Museum of Glass, China, the National Glass Centre, U.K. and the Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung Foundation, Germany. She exhibits nationally and internationally.
Jo also works as a technician, researcher and 3D designer with a specialism in materials and making, working with both digital and handmaking processes. Jo’s practice-based PhD research at the University of Sunderland investigated and discovered new methods of creating and controlling precision air entrapment in kiln-formed glass. The techniques developed during her research were the first in the world to enable control of complex air bubbles with accuracy and detail using kiln and digital technologies.
