Cecilia Stenbom, originally from Nacka, Sweden, works predominantly with moving image and film, from narrative fiction and hybrid documentary to experimental, artists’ film and moving image art.

Stenbom’s work is concerned with the moving image and its relationship with the real world: how moving image permeates reality, and, in turn, how everyday experience can be transformed narrative moving image. Within this interrogation, she captures the performed behaviours and interactions of everyday life, blending fictitious situations with real-life to examine human relationships and reinterpret scenarios within entertainment, mass media, retail, and domestic life. Thematically the work explores social protocols, anxieties, coping mechanisms, notions of identity and belongingness.

Stenbom completed a practice-based PhD at Newcastle University in 2019 and is currently Assistant Professor in Film at Northumbria University.
